Bladder Cancer Awareness Month 2025 – Nepal

HCAN led a nationwide awareness campaign combining school health programs, digital contests, survivor storytelling, and social media advocacy, reaching over 50,000 people and promoting early recognition of bladder cancer symptoms.

“Empowering yourself to make Ear and Hearing Care a reality for all in Nepal”

HCAN organized hearing health awareness programs, youth leader training, and community ear screening camps across Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur, reaching 1,050 people through screening and over 1,000 students through school programs to promote early detection and ear health awareness

“Project M.H.E.O.D.Y – Enhancing Mental Health and Support System for Deaf and Hearing-Impaired Children and Youth in Nepal”

HCAN’s Project M.H.E.O.D.Y strengthens mental health awareness, peer support networks, and inclusive counseling services for deaf and hearing-impaired youth in Nepal, while empowering Deaf Role Models (DRMs) to lead community support and advocacy initiatives.

“Early Detection of Diabetes and Hypertension Through Community Screening”

HCAN conducted screening campaigns across Kathmandu, Chitwan, Bhairahawa, Janakpur, and Nepalgunj, reaching 2,500 community members through blood glucose testing, blood pressure checks, and preventive health counseling.

“Community-Based COPD Screening and Lung Health Awareness Initiative in Rural Nepal”

HCAN conducted community-based COPD screening camps in Kalika and Gosaikunda Rural Municipalities, reaching 1,050 community members through spirometry testing, lung health education, pulmonary rehabilitation and smoking cessation counseling.

Founder & Executive Director – Health Care Association of Nepal (HCAN)

The Beginning “The Story Behind HCAN.”

HCAN was founded by Dr. Prajwal Bhandari with a vision to reduce the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Nepal and empower medical and public health students to lead community health initiatives.

During his third year of MBBS, Dr. Bhandari started sharing health education videos through Swasthya Gyan to make medical knowledge accessible to the public. Inspired by the impact of this initiative, he later established the Health Care Association of Nepal (HCAN).

HCAN now focuses on community health programs, youth engagement, and research, particularly community-based and implementation research on NCDs, cancer, mental health, and other public health challenges in Nepal.
