IEC Material on COPD Prevention and Early Detection
Healthy lungs are essential for a healthy and productive life. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, can develop or worsen because of tobacco smoke, household air pollution, occupational dust and fumes, repeated respiratory infections, poor lung development, and delayed detection.

COPD can be prevented by avoiding tobacco, reducing exposure to harmful smoke and air pollution, using clean cooking practices, maintaining good nutrition, staying physically active, and seeking timely care for persistent breathing problems.

People with chronic cough, sputum production, wheezing, chest tightness, or shortness of breath should undergo appropriate medical assessment. Early screening, spirometry when indicated, timely diagnosis, and proper treatment can slow disease progression, reduce complications, and improve quality of life.
